This led to the popular at the time “la garçonne” look, which was also popularized by Coco Chanel. It was characterized by dresses with dropped waist and creeping hemlines. Despite the simplicity, which defined daily clothing, the evening fashion trends were glamorous – women in New York City wore decoration like beadwork and embroidery. This was also the time when fashionable clothing was accessible for the middle-class ladies and gentlemen.
